Connecting People, Building Community, One Seat at a Time
Community. A simple, yet strong representation of what it means to be human. Community is one of the most valuable resources we have and connectivity is what makes us strong, inspired and innovative. The Thomas Crane Public Library is a beautiful representation of not only the historical Quincy center, but as a valuable resource serving residents of Quincy as well as many hailing from surrounding areas. Its architecture is a stunning peak into the past, creating an inviting environment to study, to learn and to belong.
Aside from its beauty, the library is home to a variety of resources. People of all ages can enjoy digital resources, services and devices as well as computer literacy classes. The library provides a wide variety of new learning materials as well as cultural and recreational reading resources for all. The popular Children's Room provides a comfortable learning environment where they can discover the joys of reading while also having a clean and safe interactive play environment. This center also hosts events and story-times for children to engage in reading activities. Another added bonus? The library even provides free local museum passes for children and adults upon request.
Adult literacy programs are some of the most inspiring resources that the library offers. Courses are provided for anyone and everyone looking to sharpen their literacy and reading comprehension skills. This unique opportunity serves to strengthen the community through continued education no matter what age or socio-economic status one may be. Interested parties have the opportunity to study with a private tutor for two hours a week until one's reading and writing goals are achieved.
Unfortunately, key library elements are falling into disrepair including their chairs. The chairs are dysfunctional and unsafe for those to use. Library employees often have to go around a few nights a week to tighten the bolts on the chairs to ensure that they will not collapse underneath library-goers. This problem is detailed in this hilarious short created by The Thomas Crane Public Library Foundation.
In order to better serve the community, it is crucial that the library is able to offer a safe and productive learning environment to support some of the incredible opportunities and programs they provide. It is important to act today to ensure the positive future of the library and its resources by taking great care and investing in this venue that has and will consistently promote continued education and a positive environment.
So what are we to do? Join The Thomas Crane Public Library Foundation for a cocktail reception event on May 8th in the historical Richardson Room at the library. Enjoy beer, wine and heavy appetizers in this incredible venue all while enjoying friends and live music. The event will serve to raise funds to replace the seating in the library through a multitude of sponsorship opportunities and ticket sales. Attendees will even have a chance to mark their place in history by purchasing a plated chair with their name along with their event ticket!
